Gilles and Suzy Thomas, Cyril Heitzmann and Guillaume Schneider have been based in the small village near Colmar for some time. In 2020, they created the collective Les Funambules, and set about nurturing their grounds with unconditional devotion. Their cheerfully named elixirs wonderfully return to tasters the love and passion by which they were raised.
What's more, the approach is astonishingly creative, seemingly a matter of course for the four long-time friends: no chemical treatments - obvious, you might say - but herbal teas, and lots and lots of human presence to accompany the growth. A balancing act between support for biodiversity and wine production.
Inscribed between permaculture and careful observation of cultivated environments, their project is generous. Here, bunches of grapes grow among tall grasses and under the shade of some 400 fruit trees, planted on the 11 hectares to encourage symbiosis between plants that are (too?) often separated.
