Originally from Chile, Camila Opazo enriched her career by studying oenology in Bordeaux, where she acquired a technical rigor that she would later blend with the energy of the Roussillon region. She chose to settle in the Pyrénées-Orientales, between Banyuls-sur-Mer, Maury, and Estagel, where she founded her own winery, Mas Guallar, in 2019.
The vineyard spans about ten hectares spread across two iconic sites: approximately 3.3 hectares in Banyuls and 1.7 hectares in Maury, on steep, terraced hillsides. Part of the vineyard is certified organic, with the remainder in the process of conversion. Camila Opazo deliberately chose isolated plots to protect them from any unwanted treatments from neighboring vineyards and to foster a rich ecosystem around her vines, which are tended entirely by hand.
Without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, she prioritizes agroecological practices that promote biodiversity and soil health.
