Casot des Mailloles

Le Casot des Mailloles was founded in 1994 in Banyuls-sur-Mer by Alain Castex and Ghislaine Magnier, following the latter’s extensive experience in the Corbières region. Refusing to use any additives in winemaking, Alain Castex became one of the founding figures of natural wine in Roussillon, working on steep, terraced slopes where the work is done almost entirely by hand.

In 2015, the young Catalan winemaker Jordi Perez took over part of the estate—3.5 hectares—while Alain Castex retained a parcel in Trouillas. Jordi continues and builds upon the work begun by his predecessor: grazing, planting olive and almond trees according to agroforestry principles, maintaining permanent ground cover, and winemaking without any additives, including sulfur. The vineyard, which is certified organic, now spans approximately 5 hectares, between the historic plots in Banyuls, on schist, and a second site in Tarerach, about twenty kilometers west of Perpignan, where the vines are grown at an elevation of between 500 and 600 meters on granitic sandy soils.
