Armagnac is better known for its Bas-Armagnac than its Armagnac Ténarèze. Two appellations d'origine contrôlée working for the same cause: to lift an entire region to the top.
The production of Armagnac is above all the work of the vine. At the Ladevèze family, grapes are grown with respect for nature and tradition, to bring out the best in the exceptional Ténarèze terroir.
On the hills of La Boubée, the vines grow in long furrows oriented North-South to capture maximum light and ensure perfect health. The fairly high planting density allows for greater concentration of aromas. The vines are trained on wires and Guyot pruned, with age ranging from 1 to 60 years. Armagnac wines are made from the oldest vines, between 40 and 60 years old, to ensure rich aromas.
The diversity of grape varieties is also important: Folle blanche, Plant de graisse, Bacco, Ugni blanc and other forgotten varieties. The vines are cultivated in the old-fashioned way, preserving ecosystems, with permanent grass cover, minimal treatments and no residual products. Pressing is carried out by a continuous horizontal press, the juice is placed in vats, and fermentation is natural, with no chemical additives.
