By now you know: at Naturiste, we're fond of unusual stories and journeys of all kinds. So let's set sail, sails inflated by the summer breeze, to discover a cognac produced in Tarsac, between Cognac and Angoulême (Charente).
The Bourgoin family estate has flourished in this part of western France, close to the Atlantic Gulf, since 1933. Frédéric Bourgoin - "an alchemist terroirist", as he puts it - cultivates the grapes here and, in 2015, turned the obvious on its head: for him, the French have lost sight of cognac, and he intends to put this forgotten product back at the center of the wine world. So he came up with the idea of reinvesting palates with flavors themselves revisited by the estate's own spells.
This title of alchemist is not given to him for nothing, in fact: in addition to working on 90 hectares of vines and their fruit from cultivation to processing, the young man and his team venture between the intangible and the technical. What do we mean by this? His cognacs are unfiltered beverages, with no added coloring or sugar (we're at Naturiste, after all!), made according to nature's revolutionary rhythms and, topping it all off on the Charente, wetted with rainwater. Bottling is done manually, by vintage, plot and barrel.
