Before becoming a winemaker, Olivier Pichon worked as a social worker in Lyon. As the father of four children, he did not have the opportunity to pursue a university degree in viticulture: it was after moving to Souvignargues in the Languedoc region that he learned the trade on the job, with the support of his friend Thierry Forestier, a winemaker at the Mont de Marie (or Monts de Marie) estate.
He established his own estate, La Grange Saint André, in 2015, starting with one hectare of vineyards acquired from Thierry Forestier. A trial year in 2015 went smoothly and led to his very first official vintage in 2016, Le Marmot—a pure, fruity Cinsaut with notes of cherry and young raspberry—which would become one of the estate’s signature wines. The following year, he expanded his lineup with wines made from Grenache, Carignan, Cinsaut, and Syrah, as well as a young white Grenache.
